Stewart Custom Homes strives to keep open communication with all of our clients when building a custom home. We communicate with all our clients at least on a weekly basis for a complete update.
Why is This Communication Important?
This coincides with our weekly draw process. We present our clients with their cost plus model, which shows how the money is being spent to build their home. We also present weekly invoices to all clients, which they must sign off on, before we can move to the next week’s work.
This process is beneficial to our client because it guarantees that they are kept up to date on the progress of their custom home and the spending as it occurs. In addition, allowance amounts are reviewed to help them keep from exceeding those amounts unless they make a decision to increase the budget for one of those amounts.
It also serves to keep the contractors on task as they have the responsibility to maintain the scheduled work.
Effective Communication and Engagement
This weekly communication in using invoices and the cost plus model is a great way to keep each client engaged in the building process. With some builders, clients may begin to feel lost and anxious as the building process seems to drag along without communication from the custom home builder.
The completion of a high-quality custom home can take months. By keeping clients apprised of weekly processes, they’ll be much more likely to better understand the process and actually understand what’s going on.
Another way we hope to engage our clients is by using a power cloud-based scheduling and selection software. This software lets the builder, client and all the sub-contractors see the same progress and budgeting information.
